WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — "We must stop terrorists from hijacking social networks for their twisted purposes," House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce said after the passage of the bill.
Royce noted the bipartisan legislation "will require the Obama administration to get serious about this threat and lay out a comprehensive strategy to keep America safe."
The Combat Terrorist Use of Social Media Act calls on President Barack Obama to outline a strategy to counter terrorists’ use of platforms like Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp and other social networks to radicalize individuals and conduct attacks.
The bill requires the Obama administration to submit an analysis of current trends in terrorist use of social media, US government efforts to disrupt that use and recommendations for how the United States can use social media for counter-radicalization efforts.
