WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-Mexico relationship is booming amid growing trade ties and closer cooperation on managing migration into the United States, US Secretary of State John Kerry said in a meeting with visiting Mexican Foreign Secretary Claudia Ruiz Massieu.
"We do more and more with Mexico today than ever before," Kerry stated on Wednesday.
He explained that together with Canada, "the Canada-North America-Mexico trilateral relationship is an enormous economic bloc, an enormous security relationship which has profound impact."
Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced earlier he had increased deployment of National Guard troops along the US-Mexico border and strengthened aerial observation missions in an attempt to stop illegal immigration.
The Texas-Mexico border is crossed by thousands of illegal immigrants every year and an estimated 5.8 million illegal immigrants from Mexico reside in the United States, according to a study by the Pew Research Center.
