LONDON (Sputnik) — The United Kingdom should reconsider arms export licenses to Saudi Arabia, UK Shadow Foreign Secretary Hilary Benn said Friday.
Benn required "an immediate review of arms export licenses to Saudi Arabia," as quoted by The Telegraph.
Human rights watchdogs, as well as British media, have reportedly criticized London for arms sales to Riyadh, adding that the sales back Saudi Arabia, which violates international law by using weapons to destroy civilian objects in Yemen, such as ceramics factory on September 23.
Yemen has been engulfed in a military conflict between the government headed by Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and Houthi rebels since early 2014.
Since late March, a Saudi-led coalition has been carrying out airstrikes against Houthi positions at Hadi's request.
