MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Large-scale counter-terrorism drills will take place before the end of 2015 in all divisions of Russia’s Eastern Military District (EMD), a statement from the EMD press service says.
"On the eve of New Year celebrations, across the garrisons and military camps with anti-terror units practical training will be carried out," the Thursday statement says.
Drills aimed at practising methods of eliminating the consequences of terrorist acts, involving fire brigades and medical units, will also be held, according to the statement.
Russian Troops of Radiological, Chemical and Biological Defence (RChBD) and reconnaissance units will also be involved in the drills.
The drills come amid a rising global terrorism threat coming from various radical groups, particularly Islamic State (ISIL, also known as Daesh), which is outlawed in Russia and a range of other countries.
