BRUSSELS (Sputnik) – Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said on Thursday he expected to sign additional defense capacity-building documents with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in the short term.
"We plan to sign several documents aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s defense capability in the near future," Poroshenko said after a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, without specifying the scope or date of the agreements.
Earlier on Thursday, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine said it had signed a roadmap on defense and technical cooperation with the military alliance.
Ukraine’s updated military doctrine, unveiled in September, aims to deepen NATO-Ukraine cooperation and achieve compatibility between their armed forces by 2020.
