MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Earlier this week, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that a CSTO summit would be held on Monday in Moscow.
"[The CSTO member states] are planning to adopt a statement on the fight against terrorism. It will reflect the common approaches of member countries to addressing the threat," Ushakov said at a press briefing in Moscow.
The CSTO is a Russia-led intergovernmental military alliance, devised as a counterweight to NATO. The treaty, signed in 1992, currently has six members — all post-Soviet states — namely Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
In the wake of a string of recent acts of terrorism, namely the October 31 crash of a Russian plane in the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, and the November 13 Paris attacks, security has become a burning issue globally.
