WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — All of the critical stakeholders in the International Syria Support Group are in agreement on a timeline and framework for a political transition in Syria, US Secretary of State John Kerry said in a Friday press conference at the United Nations.

"[We have] some 20 entities, 20 states altogether, all of the immediate neighbors [of Syria] all of the stakeholders, and all of them are committed to a set of principles for how to move forward," Kerry said on Friday.

Kerry’s comments came after the passage of the UN Security Council resolution on a Syrian political transition earlier in the day.

The state secretary added that the 20 stakeholders agreed not only on general principles, "but for a very specific timeline and framework."

"Within… two months decisions are going have to start to be made about the devolution of some power and the creation of a unity entity, this transitional body, that is going to have full executive authority," Kerry stated.

The US Secretary of State stated however, that the International Syrian Support Group was unable to reach a consensus on what groups within Syria should be designated as terrorist and will take up the effort in the next round of talks.

"It was deemed that it was not constructive to turn today into a designation process and that it was impossible, actually, to do so to reach the consensus in the time we had," Kerry said on Friday of the prospects of an internationally designated list of terrorist groups in Syria.

He noted that ISSG members agreed that all countries would stop funding groups that some ISSG parties deem as terrorist if a ceasefire agreement is reached, US Secretary of State John Kerry said at a Friday UN press conference.

"There was an agreement reached… in the discussions in Paris, that everybody will be better served by honoring one or two or three countries’ perceptions of a group as a terrorist group," Kerry stated.

On Friday afternoon, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution reaffirming the commitment to a political transition in Syria. The resolution includes a timeline for a UN-supported political transition process to begin within six months, and sets a target of 18 months for new Syrian elections and constitutional reform.
