WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US President Barack Obama approved legislation designed to enhance pressure on Hezbollah’s financial network, the White House said in a press release.
"Today, the President [Obama] signed into law…the Hezbollah International Financing Prevention Act of 2015," the release stated on Friday. "This strong, bipartisan bill intensifies pressure against the Hezbollah terrorist organization and provides the Administration additional tools with which to target Hezbollah’s financial lifeblood."
The US Congress passed identical legislation last month to prevent Hezbollah from gaining access to international financial and other institutions.
Hezbollah is a Lebanon-based militant Shia group that has been designated a terrorist organization by the US government.
