MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The UK Independence Party (UKIP) needs a new leader, with "an optimistic message" for the future, party member Douglas Carswell said, as quoted by local media Friday.
"[UKIP] needs to change gear and to change its management if it's to go to the next level," Carswell was quoted by the BBC news portal as saying.
The lawmaker, who is the only member of the British parliament from UKIP, reportedly ruled out assuming the role himself.
Current UKIP leader Nigel Farage stepped down after failing to get elected to the House of Commons in May, but stayed on after his resignation was not accepted.
