Eurasian Economic Commission Ready for ‘Deeper’ EU-EEU Cooperation Dialogue
VLADIVOSTOK (Sputnik) – In November, European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker wrote to Putin, suggesting closer trade ties between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union and linking them to progress on implementing a ceasefire in Ukraine.

"It is no secret, after all, everything was done to prevent the setting up of a common economic space between Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus, the creation of a Customs Union. No one wanted to talk with the Eurasian Economic Union as a full-fledged participant of international life until now," Putin stated in the film by Russian TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov that was broadcast on Rossiya-1 television channel.

"For some reason, they find nothing wrong in creating the European Union but think opposite of the Eurasian [union]. However, I think that our partners are coming to an understanding that it is a destructive position," the Russian president stressed.

The Eurasian Economic Union is a bloc conceived to streamline the flow of goods, capital and labor between its member nations, namely Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. It was officially launched on January 1, 2015.
