MOSCOW (Sputnik) – It is expected that the Tripoli-based government's delegation will hold a meeting at the Russian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.
"We have seen that we have good relations with our brothers-Chechens. [These relations] have been the key to contacts with Russia," Ali Abu Zaakouk said.
The minister reminded about the release of seven sailors from the crew of the Russian-flagged oil tanker Mekhanik Chebotarev, which was seized in Libya in September. Head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov was involved in negotiations with the Tripoli-based Libyan government.
There are currently two governments ruling the county: the internationally recognized Council of Deputies, based in Tobruk, and the self-proclaimed General National Congress, based in the capital city of Tripoli.
On December 17, Libya's two rival governments signed a peace deal to form a national unity government.
