MOSCOW (Sputnik) — PP won 123 seats in the country’s parliament in the Sunday popular vote, but failed to get parliamentary majority.
"Whoever wins the election should try to form the government. I shall try to form a stable government which will work for the benefit of all Spanish people. Spain needs a stable government," Rajoy said in a speech.
"A lot was done in recent years. Now we need to continue what was started. A stage, which will be difficult, is starting. But we have to talk, to engage in dialogue, to come to agreements. I insist, my aim is to only serve Spain," Rajoy said.
PP’s traditional rival, Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) came second, getting 90 seats. The anti-austerity Podemos party got 69 seats and the liberal Ciudadanos party won 40 seats.
