MOSCOW, Rossiya Segodnya Press-Office - The Andrei Stenin photo contest was established by Rossiya Segodnya under the auspices of Russia's Commission for UNESCO. The organizers have chosen as its basic theme this year "Visualizing A Path to Global Understanding," in tune with the International Year of Global Understanding, as proclaimed by UNESCO. Applications can now be submitted to the stenincontest.com website through March 22, 2016. Photographers of 18 to 33 years of age qualify to take part.
The organizers announced the 2016 jury at a recent news conference in Moscow. The jury will include such world renown photo and art experts as Olga Sviblova, Founding Director, Multimedia Art Museum (Moscow House of Photography), member of the Russian Academy of Arts; Russian photojournalist Yury Kozyrev; Ruth Eichhorn, Director of Photography, Geo magazine, Germany; and Denis Paquin, Deputy Director of Photography at the Associated Press and many others.
The 2016 contest will showcase five categories for which young photographers can vie for awards: "My Country," "World Colors. Harmony of Life," "Portraits: A Hero of Our Time," "Top News" and "Sport". More detailed information regarding the contest can be found at stenincontest.com.
Alexander Shtol, Rossiya Segodnya Director of Photography announced: "This year's jury will be represented by many schools of photography in order to evaluate the young contestants in all their diversity. The newly created photo categories will allow participating photojournalists to illustrate different aspects of life in greater profundity than ever before."
The 2015 event proved to be the premiere event for young photographers as it gathered more than 5,000 works from 54 countries in Europe, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East, India and Southeast Asia, as well as from every corner of Russia stretching from Moscow and St. Petersburg to Vladivostok and Nakhodka. The award ceremony took place in Moscow, with the winning photos being exhibited at many shows and festivals in Russia and abroad.
