MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to El Plural news portal, the deal stipulates appointment of acting Catalan head and Junts pel Si leader Artur Mas as Catalan President.
According to Junts Pel Yes member Raul Romeva, quoted by the portal, the agreement also suggests "a constitutional process toward a Catalan republic" and an economic program of the future government.
The media added that the agreement is to be validated by a CUP assembly on December 27.
In November, the Parliament of Catalonia twice voted against the candidacy of Artur Mas for the post of the government’s president. Mas' candidacy was supported by 62 lawmakers from the Junts pel Si coalition, while 73 representatives from all the other parliamentary groups, including 10 members of the parliament from the CUP, voted against it.
The members of the parliament have until January 9 to appoint Mas or come up with an alternative candidate. If they fail, Catalonia will have to hold fresh regional elections.
