MOSCOW (Sputnik) — French President Francois Hollande called for the measure in the wake of the November 13 deadly Paris attacks chat left 130 killed.
"The constitutional reform project that will be presented in the cabinet of ministers does not retain this provision," Christiane Taubira said Tuesday in an interview with Radio Algerienne.
According to Taubira and human rights groups, the proposed amendment could significantly violate the principle of jus soli.
Under the French law that is historically based on the principle of jus soli, the right of soil, those born on French soil to foreign parents may acquire French citizenship. France that has permitted dual citizenship since 1973 has thousands of dual citizens, mostly from its former colonies in North Africa.
