MOSCOW (Sputnik) – US mixed martial artist Jeff Monson confirmed he has received Russian citizenship and will soon receive his new Russian passport to fight under the Russian flag on December 25, Monson said Tuesday.
"Yes, it's been approved, Now I have to wait for the passport, they are making it, so it'll be a couple of days till I get it in my hands, but it's like everybody has given their signatures," Monson told R-Sport in a telephone interview.
"Russia's" Monson is scheduled to fight against Cameroon’s Donald Njatah outside Moscow.
"I'm relieved that it finally happened cause it's been a long time, I'm very excited. I feel a lot of pressure to fight for Russia, it's a big responsibility," Monson said.
