MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia's Central Military District is holding military reconnaissance exercises in the country's southern Sayan Mountains, the press service of the district said in a statement Wednesday.
"Reconnaissance personnel will practice airborne landings from helicopters in mountainous areas, negotiating cliffs, [mountain] slopes and glaciers," according to the statement.
It was added in the statement that participants in the exercises would practice reconnaissance and ambush techniques using special equipment, including mountain skis and mountain climbing equipment.
The three-day exercises, which are underway in Russia's Ergaki National Park, are due to wind up on December 25.
