Roscosmos designed the system to protect the Russian group of satellites from asteroids, space debris and other dangerous objects, according to Russian space agency Roscosmos head Igor Komarov.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia’s new Federal Space Program envisages creating a system to prevent dangerous situations in circumterrestrial space to protect satellites, Russian space agency Roscosmos head Igor Komarov said Thursday.

"In the next program period, we are planning to form a system to prevent dangerous situations in circumterrestrial space. This system is intended to ensure the security of the Russian orbital group," Komarov told journalists.

The system is being designed to protect the Russian group of satellites from asteroids, space debris and other dangerous objects.

According to Roscosmos, the Federal Space Program has a budget of roughly $37 billion to last through 2025.
