"No extra suggestions for broadening the list were discussed," Konstantin Kosachev said during the meeting of three profile committees of the Russian upper house with participation of the representatives of the Foreign Ministry and the Justice Ministry as well as the Prosecutor General's Office.
According to the official, the work continues with 12 organizations which were added to the list in July. The list includes NGOs that are undesirable on Russia’s territory according to lawmakers.
The organizations have been added to list as their actions are believed to be "undermining Russia’s constitutional order." The organizations are being screened to determine whether they are potentially unwanted entities, according to senator Andrei Klishas.
Kosachev added that some of the organizations from the stop-list could be added to the Justice Ministry’s list of undesirable NGOs.
The list includes the Open Society Foundations of US billionaire-activist George Soros, as well as the National Endowment for Democracy, the International Republican Institute, and the MacArthur Foundation.
Washington, which funds most of the nonprofits under scrutiny in Russia, previously criticized Moscow for attempting to ban US charities on Russian territory.
