Sports in Between Corruption and Doping
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The problem of doping in sports in Russia has become acute with approximately 40 percent of the violations falling on youth sports, the former head of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) said.

In November, an independent committee from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accused Russia of violating anti-doping rules. The WADA suspended RUSADA's anti-doping lab operations amid large-scale doping corruption scandal.

"The problem of doping in Russia, of course, is acute and this cannot be denied. The results of our activity show that we have the most violations in anti-doping rules in comparison with other countries. This, of course, shows there’s a serious problem. It’s alarming that around 40 percent of these violations are from youth sports, even on that level the coaches have turned to using doping in order to gain some sort of local results," Ramil Khabriev told R-Sport in an interview.

Earlier in December, the Russian Sports Ministry said all RUSADA top executives resigned in light of accusations of covering up doping by Russia's leading athletes.
