MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Russian Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has warned food producers and suppliers that any unreasonable price increases amid the embargo imposed on Turkish food imports would not be tolerated.
"In order to prevent an unreasonable increase in prices for food products, included in the list of agricultural goods, raw materials and provisions, banned for import… from Turkey, the FAS sent the largest associations of food producers and suppliers a letter about the necessity to adhere to antitrust law and take measures to keep prices down," FAS said in a statement Friday.
FAS sent the letter to the Retail Companies Association (ACORT), the Association of foodstuffs' producers and suppliers Rusprodsoyuz, the Russian Poultry Union and the Union of independent networks of Russia, according to the statement.
Russia has imposed a number of restrictive measures to economic cooperation with Turkey in response to the downing of a Russian Su-24 attack aircraft by a Turkish F-16 fighter in Syria on November 24.
In particular, the list of food products banned, effective January 1, 2016, includes salt, cloves, fruit, vegetables, and most chicken and turkey products.
