MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Any foreign interference in Syria without approval from the country's leadership, even during operations against terrorists, is considered aggression against the Arab republic's sovereignty, Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riad Haddad said.
"We are warning that any foreign actions [in Syria], even against armed terrorist groups, must be coordinated with the Syrian army and the Syrian government. Any foreign intervention without consent of our government is considered aggression against the sovereignty of our country."
Haddad told the Russian Defense Ministry's Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper.
Moscow commenced precision airstrikes against Islamic State (Daesh in Arabic), which is outlawed in Russia, on September 30, following a request from Syrian President Bashar Assad.
The US-led international coalition has been carrying out a separate campaign against Daesh in Syria since 2014 without the approval from either the UN Security Council or the Syrian government.
