"The 53 houses that are destroyed, there will be more that are damaged," Lapsley said as quoted by Sky News Australia on Saturday.

Emergency warnings have been issued for several coastal areas in Victoria, as fire crews continue to battle the blaze.

According to Lapsley, the fire was triggered by a lightning strike on December 19. Sky News Australia said that the blaze could continue into February 2016.
