MOSCOW (Sputnik) A locomotive, as well as 26 carriages with acid derailed on 10:20 a.m. local time (00:20 GMT) near the town of Julia Creek, ABC TV channel reported.

According to the media, local authorities have declared an emergency and placed more than one-mile exclusion zone around the crash site citing a minor leakage of acid and diesel fuel while passenger operations in the region were canceled.

Aurizon, Australia's largest rail freight operator, said that three drivers suffered minor incidents and were taken to the local hospital.

"Two drivers have been released and the third is expected to be released later today," a spokesperson for the company said as quoted by the media.

He added that the investigation into the reason of the incident was underway.
