MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Israeli court considering the case of extradition of Russian national Aleksei Burkov to the United States has not yet made a final decision, extending Burkov detention until January 21, head of the Russian Embassy in Israel’s consular department Ruslan Kandaurov said Sunday.
"His detention was extended until January 21," Kandaurov told RIA Novosti.
According to the diplomat, the detention was extended for lawyers to provide additional information in the case.
Burkov was detained by Israeli police at the Ben Gurion international airport on December 15 on an arrest warrant issued by the relevant US authorities.
The Russian Foreign Ministry deemed the detention of its national as another case of an extraterritorial use of US laws in respect to Russian citizens, which has taken on "chronic nature."
