MOSCOW (Sputnik) – On Thursday, a Thai court found the two suspects guilty of killing the British couple, whose bodies were found on a beach in Thailand in September 2014.
Hliang asked Thai authorities for a "review of the evidence" against the two men, the Global New Light of Myanmar newspaper reported.
The verdict has sparked protests in Myanmar, with the suspects’ defenders saying that the police used the two men as scapegoats. The protesters reportedly plan to continue rallies in Rangoon through late Sunday.
A human rights watchdog, Amnesty International, has accused the Thai authorities of failing to independently investigate allegations suggesting that the forensic evidence in the case was improperly collected and processed.
