Lavrov: Differences Should Be Put Aside to Unite in Fight Against Terrorism

According to Russia's Foreign Ministry,Sergei Lavrov in a conversation with John Kerry stressed the need to put away all preconditions and unite in the fight against all terrorist grops.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US State Secretary John Kerry discussed the settlement of the Syrian crisis and the creation of a united front in the fight against terrorism in a phone call on Monday, the Foreign Ministry said.

"The sides discussed the prospects of the settlement of the crisis in Syria, including in the context of the talks between the Syrian government officials and opposition…," the ministry said in a statement.

"Minister Lavrov stressed again the need to put away all preconditions while setting up a united front in the fight against Islamic State [Daesh in Arabic] and other terrorist groups," the statement said.

Russian Foreign Minister also said that efforts by the United States to increase sanctions pressure on Russia are futile and only undermine bilateral cooperation on global issues.

"While discussing Russia-US relations, Lavrov stressed that the US actions to increase sanctions pressure on Russia will not bring the desired results, but will only undermine possible bilateral cooperation on urgent issues on the global agenda…,"Lavrov was quoted as saying in the statement.
