BELGRADE (Sputnik) — Powers of incumbent UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will expire on December 31, 2016. His successor is expected to be from Eastern Europe, due to the principle of the regional rotation of the position.
"Serbia has not made a decision. I have read in different newspapers that we will support somebody. The name of a man I have never seen in my life also was on the list [of Serbian nominees]. How can we support him?" Vucic said.
Former Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic has been repeatedly mentioned among the nominees that could be proposed by Belgrade. However, Vucic evaded question of Sputnik correspondent about Jeremic's prospects to become next UN chief.
Macedonian diplomat and a former president of the UN General Assembly Srgjan Kerim, as well as Croatian Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic have already been proposed by their countries as a nominees for the highest UN post.
