DUBAI (Sputnik) – Persian Gulf states plan on beginning the construction of railways at the end of 2017 that will connect all six countries for the transportation of both cargo and people, United Arab Emirates Deputy Economic Minister Abdallah Ahmed Saleh said.
“For example, we’re talking about the creation of a railroad between countries in the Persian Gulf, which is already underway. The construction of the railroad will begin at the end of 2017,” Saleh, who also handles issues on foreign trade and industry, told RIA Novosti in an interview.
Saleh said that construction of the railways in the UAE would begin in the country’s west where there are oil fields and refineries and lead to ports in Abu Dhabi.
“It’s planned that cargo will first be run along the line and then passenger trains. The project will be completely finished in 2019,” Saleh said.
