MOSCOW (Sputnik) – At least 67 journalists were killed in 2015 in connection to their work, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) said on Tuesday.
"A total of 110 journalists were killed in connection with their work or for unclear reasons in 2015… 67 of them were targeted because of their work or were killed while reporting," RSF said in an annual round-up, published on its website.
The NGO, promoting press freedom, condemned initiatives that failed to protect journalists while they were on duty.
Among those 67 journalists, one was killed while reporting on an armed conflict in eastern Ukraine, five were killed in Iraq, six in Brazil, which brings to a total number of 787 journalists' deaths in connection to their work since 2005, detected by RSF.
Earlier in the day, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) estimated that 69 journalists had been killed for their work in 2015 and said in its own annual round-up that Islamic radical groups were responsible for 40 percent of journalists’ deaths this year.
