Personal ambitions prevent the Turkish and US leaders from seeking a compromise with Syrian President Bashar Assad, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said.

"Driven by their personal ambitions the United States and Turkey are not trying to find a common language with Syrian President Bashar Assad despite the suffering millions of Syrians have been going through," Kadyrov said at a news conference in Grozny.

"[Turkish President Recep Tayyip] Erdogan and the US say that there will be no stabilization in Syria as long as Assad remains in power. So many people have been suffering; an entire country lies in ruins… Even if the world helps it will take decades to rebuild Syria," the Chechen leader added.

Turkey, as well as some Arabic and Western states, say that Assad has no role in the country's future, while Russia and Iran support Assad as the legitimate authority in Syria. In 2011, Washington imposed sanctions against him in the hope that he would step down.

However, in the 2014 Syrian presidential election Bashar Assad won a landslide victory, receiving 88.7 percent of the votes.

Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with opposition factions and Islamist terrorist groups such as Daesh and al-Nusra Front fighting the Syrian Army.
