Israel's Supreme Court reduced the corruption sentence of former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to 18 month from the original six years, local media reported Tuesday.

TEL AVIV (Sputnik) — In March 2014, Olmert was found guilty of two counts of bribery when he served as mayor of Jerusalem at the turn of the 2000s, in exchange for helping the developers of the city's Holyland Park residential project. After being sentenced to six years in prison, Olmert pledged to appeal the decision.

The Supreme Court ruled that there was insufficient evidence in one of the bribe cases, which prompted the judges to partially uphold the sentence, the Kol Yisrael radio station reported.

According to other media reports, following the verdict, Olmert gave a statement to the press saying he had never accepted any bribes and fully respected the decision of the justices to partially uphold his conviction.

Before the 2014 charges, Olmert was also accused of corruption, but was not arrested.

Olmert headed the Israeli government between 2006 and 2008, and has become the first Israeli Prime Minister sentenced to a real prison term.
