The US-led coalition against Daesh has eliminated dozens of targets near the Iraqi cities of Mosul and Ramadi.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition against Daesh has eliminated dozens of targets near the Iraqi cities of Mosul and Ramadi, US Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter the Islamic State Brett McGurk said via Twitter on Wednesday.

“Coalition airstrikes over last 24 hours in Iraq destroyed 31 ISIL [Islamic State] targets in Mosul and 20 targets near Ramadi,” McGurk tweeted.

Ramadi had been under Daesh control since May, but the Iraqi Security Forces recaptured the city from the terror group on Monday.

Mosul, Iraq's second largest city, was captured by Daesh in June 2014.

Daesh, is a designated terrorist group that has occupied large territories of Iraq and Syria and declared a caliphate there under the rule of Sharia law. The organisation is outlawed in Russia and numerous other countries.
