MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The European Parliament applies "double standards" by justifying any military exports to Kiev and at the same time condemning illicit arms trade by EU member states, Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Wednesday.

"We note with regret that the European Parliament's approach is not without double standards," Zakharova said, as quoted in a statement on the ministry’s website.

This applies primarily to the "selective application of specific provisions" of the Common Position in the part concerning the admissibility of transfer of arms and military equipment to Ukraine, the spokeswoman said.

"The European parliamentarians, in fact, justify any supplies of military products to Kiev," the spokeswoman said.

Zakharova’s statement comes in response to the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on December 17. The EU parliamentarians noted with concern the increasingly frequent violations of the Common Position adopted on the issue in 2008 by individual EU member states.
