During the special anti-terrorist operations earlier this week, six people were initially detained in Belgium on suspicion of having terrorist links. Four of them were later released, the other two were indicted and accused of terrorism-related offenses, including threatening to commit terrorist acts, managing a terrorist group and recruiting people to engage in acts of terrorism. The police found neither weapons nor explosives during the raids, but confiscated Daesh propaganda material and uniforms similar to those worn by Daesh militants.
On November 13, a series of terrorist attacks in Paris claimed the lives of 130 people. The Islamic State terrorist group, which is outlawed in Russia, claimed responsibility for the attacks.
A number of terrorists allegedly responsible for the attacks traveled to Paris from Belgium, according to police. A key suspect in the attacks, Salah Abdelsalam, had lived in the Brussels district of Molenbeek, which is has a very ethnically diverse population.
Belgium remains on high terror alert since the terrorist attacks in the French capital.
