CAIRO (Sputnik) — Sisi's decree finished the formation of the parliament. The first session of the parliament is expected to take place on January 10, 2016, Egyptian Ahram Online news website reported.
According to the Egyptian Constitution, the president has the right to appoint 28 parliamentarians, with at least 14 women among them. The appointed lawmakers should represent different political parties.
The Egyptian parliament, consisting of 596 lawmakers, was elected in two phases. The first phase took place on October 18-19, while the second one was held on November 22-23.
Egypt’s January 2014 constitution – adopted following the ousting of Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated Mohamed Morsi a year earlier – envisions fall elections as the last phase in the country’s transitional period.
