SAITAMA (Japan), (Sputnik) – The Japanese government awarded Russian heavyweight mixed martial artist (MMA) Fedor Emelianenko on Thursday for his contribution to fostering friendly Russian-Japanese relations.
Emelianenko returned to the ring after a three-year break on Thursday, registering a first round knockout of Indian fighter Jaideep Singh on day two of the Rizin Fighting Federation Grand Prix in Saitama, Japan.
"It is a great pleasure for me to perform for you. After a long break of three and a half years, I am delighted to be with you again, I am pleased to perform here in Japan," Emelianenko said. "I am very grateful to you for your love and support, for your warmth."
The latest becomes Emelianenko’s 36th victory in 41 career bouts. The acclaimed fighter presides over the Russian MMA Union.
