MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Council of Ministers declared a 10-day state of emergency on December 21 during an extraordinary meeting on developments in security situation in Mali and the sub-region. The emergency state was introduced to ensure that the competent authorities could better recognize and combat any plan that might threaten the safety of people in the country.
According to the Journal du Mali news portal, the Council of Ministers adopted a decision to extend the emergency state on Monday.
On November 21, Mali declared a 10-day state of emergency after an attack at a hotel in the country’s capital of Bamako, which left at least 19 people dead.
