Dubai police denied on Saturday that an elderly man had died of heart attack during a major blaze at the Address Downtown Hotel in the United Arab Emirates' most populous city.

DUBAI (Sputnik) — The fire broke out at the 63-story building just opposite the world’s tallest skyscraper Burj Khalifa on the New Year’s Eve. It was put out after more than 20 hours of struggle.

Dubai police commander-in-chief Khamis Matar Muzainah said the fire had injured 15 people. Another person suffered a heart attack, he said, but no casualties were recorded.

"All victims were taken to hospital and discharged once medical assistance was provided to them," Muzainah said, adding two people were still undergoing treatment, including a pregnant woman and an elderly man whose condition he described as stable.

Around a thousand of adults and 77 children were staying at the luxury hotel when it caught fire. All of them were evacuated and provided with alternative accommodation. The investigation into the cause of the blaze is continuing.
