MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Saudi-led Arab coalition on Saturday declared the end of a ceasefire in Yemen that was agreed with Houthi rebels in mid-December, the state-run Saudi news agency said.
"The alliance leadership supporting legitimate Yemeni authorities declares the end of the truce starting at 14:00 [11:00 GMT] on Saturday," the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said on Twitter.
The ceasefire was declared on December 15 and prolonged after intra-Yemeni talks in Switzerland on December 20. All attempts to transform it into a lasting peace agreement have failed so far.
The truce has been repeatedly violated by both forces loyal to President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and the anti-government Houthi movement. New peace talks under UN auspices are expected to take place later this month.
