"US special forces carried out a night operation…close to the city of Mosul. The forces clashed with Daesh militants, killing 15 terrorists during the fight and detaining 11 more, including officers," the Alsumaria channel quoted its unnamed source as saying.
According to the channel’s source, the operation lasted for six hours late on Saturday through early Sunday and concluded without losses for the US troops.
The second largest city in Iraq, Mosul, was captured by Daesh jihadists in June 2014.
The extremist group, which is outlawed in Russia and numerous other countries, has seized large areas in Syria and Iraq and declared a caliphate.
A US-led coalition of 65 nations has been carrying out airstrikes against Daesh in Iraq since August 2014.
