MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian Land Forces will receive more than 5,000 pieces of new military hardware by 2020, Russian Land Forces' commander Col. Gen. Oleg Salyukov said Tuesday.
"More than 5 thousands of new and some 6 thousands of modernized combat vehicles and pieces of military hardware and also some 14 thousands of modern automotive vehicles are planned to be procured [for Land Forces] by 2020," Salyukov said.
Russia is planning to modernize up to 70 percent of its military hardware by 2020. Total modernization program cost is estimated to reach about 20 trillion rubles (some $274 billion at current exchange rates).
