Decision on Brexit Campaign Averts UK Cabinet Resignations - Farage
16:43 GMT 05.01.2016 (Updated: 15:02 GMT 28.05.2023) The leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP), Nigel Farage, said on Tuesday the decision to allow British ministers to campaign either for or against the country's exit from the European Union was "a right thing to do" but aimed to prevent cabinet resignations.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, UK Prime Minister David Cameron announced the ministers were allowed to choose individually whether to campaign for or against the so-called Brexit.
"This is a right thing to do. I welcome it," Farage said, as quoted by the ITV news outlet, adding that the move for open campaigning prevented several cabinet members' resignations.

Farage said the referendum on Britain leaving the European Union was "much bigger than party politics."
The UKIP leader warned, however, that "putting [the Conservative party] back together again won't be easy" regardless of the referendum outcomes.
Cameron pledged in his election campaign to hold a nationwide in/out referendum on the United Kingdom's membership of the European Union by the end of 2017.
The UK prime minister has repeatedly said that EU membership is beneficial to the United Kingdom, but only if the bloc reforms its relations with the country. He pledged to achieve the reforms first, and then hold the referendum.
