“They continue to hum the same tune which hasn’t stopped for a minute. Whatever happens in Syria is [Syrian President] Bashar Assad’s fault as well as the government troops. They are constantly blamed for using chemical components. There is a whole collection of complaints that constantly surface during the OPCW executive committee sessions, in the press, and so on. I think that nothing will change here because our Westerns partners are holding an obvious biased line in regard to Bashar Assad,” Mikhail Ulyanov said.
He said the West refuses to extend the OPCW mandate mechanism beyond Syria into Iraq even though the same Daesh (the Islamic State) that is operating both in Syria and Iraq, known as Daesh in the Arab world and prohibited in numerous countries including the United States and Russia, has used chemical weapons against Kurds in Iraq.
“This is the exact reason they refuse to extend the mandate of the aforementioned mechanism on investigations beyond Syria into the territory of Iraq, regardless of the fact that it’s the same Daesh in Iraqi territory that has already used [chemical] weapons against the Kurds, which is already an established fact,” Ulyanov said.
