MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The application of such rules is directly related to the Defense Ministry's intention to strengthen safety and security measures in the wake of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, the Brazilian O Globo newspaper reported on Tuesday.
Moreover, a number of drones and similar devices has increased in recent years all across the country, while in Rio alone it currently amounts to 1,500, according to the newspaper.
If one wants to use drones in the city streets, he has to receive a permission from the Department of Airspace Control. The use of drones will be closely observed by the public security authorities.
The decision to create the rules on drones use was first initiated in 2014, the year when Brazil hosted the 20th FIFA World Cup, the newspaper noted.
Rio de Janeiro will host the Summer Olympic Games on August 5-21, 2016, and will become the first South American country to host the competition.
