WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition against the Daesh (also known as the Islamic State) terrorist group conducted a combined 20 airstrikes in Syria and Iraq, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a press release on Wednesday.
"In Syria, coalition military forces conducted one strike using fighter aircraft," the release said.
The airstrike near the town of Raqqa struck a Daesh headquarters building.
"Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 19 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using rocket artillery and fighter, attack, ground-attack, bomber, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets," the release added.
In Ramadi, the eight airstrikes destroyed four IS staging areas, three buildings, six fighting positions, three vehicles, as well as wounded three IS fighters, the release noted.
The Islamic State (IS), also known as Daesh, is a terrorist group outlawed in Russia and many other countries. IS has seized large areas in Syria and Iraq and declared a caliphate on territories under its control.
