RIGA (Sputnik) — Laimdota Straujuma, who has been the country's prime minister since 2014, resigned in December amid disagreements within her ruling coalition over the budget for 2016.
"I informed the head of state that I would gladly continue working in the new government as minister of finance," Reirs told the Diena newspaper following talks with Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis.
Last week, Vejonis took the lead in nominating the candidate for the post of prime minister after the ruling coalition parties failed to reach a compromise on the issue of the new government formation.
