WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition launched 36 airstrikes against Daesh (Islamic State) in Syria and Iraq targeting fighting positions, bunkers, tactical units and more, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced in a statement on Thursday.
"In Syria, coalition military forces conducted 14 strikes using fighter, attack, and bomber aircraft," CENTCOM said. "Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 22 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using rocket artillery, fighter, fighter-attack, bomber, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets."
CENTCOM said that US forces directed all of its 14 airstrikes in Syria near Manbij targeting Daesh buildings, suppressing militant vehicle movements and blocking off access to terrain.
The US-led coalition of 65 nations has been carrying out airstrikes against Daesh, which is outlawed in Russia, in Iraq since August 2014 and in Syria since September 2014, but without the approval of the Syrian government or the UN Security Council.
