MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to Press TV channel, citing the Iraqi Defense Ministry, Asi Ali Mohammad Nasir al-Obaidi, the second deputy to Daesh leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was killed in the town of Barwanah, located in the Anbar province.
Nasir al-Obaidi had earlier escaped Abu Ghraib prison, according to the media.
The situation in Iraq has been unstable in recent months, triggered primarily by the activity of Islamist militants.
The Daesh militant group, which is outlawed in Russia and other countries, has taken over large parts in Iraq since 2014, declared a caliphate on the territories under its control and committed numerous human rights atrocities in the country.
