CAIRO (Sputnik) – On December 31, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah Sisi appointed 28 lawmakers from different political parties to the country's parliament.
All 596 members of the Egyptian parliament are set to be sworn in during the session, as well as to appoint a parliamentary speaker and his deputies.
The Egyptian parliament was elected in two phases. The first phase took place on October 18-19, while the second one was held on November 22-23.
Egypt’s January 2014 constitution – adopted following the ousting of Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated Mohamed Morsi a year earlier – envisions fall elections as the last phase in the country’s transitional period.
